    St. James Hotel Information

The St. James Hotel is one of New Orleans' finest luxury boutique hotels, and this magnificently restored hotel consists of historic landmark buildings complete with rooftop terraces and charming courtyards. Join them on your next visit to New Orleans, and see why the St. James Hotel is setting a new standard for New Orleans boutique luxury hotels! The original St. James opened its doors in 1859 and though it changed hands several times, continued to welcome guests throughout the latter half of the 19th century. During this time, noted New Orleans architect James Feret began work on Baroque influenced building behind the hotel, which would become the Board of Trade. The hotel, in its heyday, was described in one newspaper article as "one of the grandest hotels in the Confederate States". The union Army however, may have been responsible for its greatest fame. After occupying the city during the Civil War, troops converted the stately hotel into a military hospital. Legend has it that this was the famous "St. James Infirmary" immortalized in New Orleans' blues history. Another story has it that one of the current first floor guest rooms was used as a meeting place for early plotters of the Texas Revolution.
This exquisite luxury hotel features 86 elegant "French Quarter style" rooms and suites in magnificently restored historic landmark buildings. Each guest room offers distinctive architectural details, and special touches include marble baths and plush terry robes in every room. hair dryer, full length mirror, iron & ironing board, sleek marble bathrooms, AM/FM alarm clock radio, remote controlled 25 inch television, plush custom terry cloth bath robes, dual line telephone with data port, voice mail, high speed wireless internet access, in room coffee, in room personal combination safe, complimentary New York Times delivered to your room daily, on demand hit movies, Nintendo 64 and Internet access, triple sheeting on bed, writing desk, non smoking floors, smoke detectors & sprinklers.
